Education: Nairn Academy; Aberdeen University.

Career: Apprenticed to Brander & Cruickshank, Advocates in Aberdeen, 1975-77; apprenticed to, Assistant with, Lefevre & Co., Advocates in Aberdeen, 1977-78; Assistant, later Partner, A.C. Morrison & Richards, Advocates in Aberdeen, 1978-87;
Partner and latterly Head of Litigation Department, McGrigor Donald, 1988-98; attained rights of audience in Supreme Courts in Scotland, 1993; Sheriff of Lothian and Borders at Edinburgh, 1998; Designated one of the sheriffs to hear commercial actions, 1999.

Publications: International Intellectual Property Litigation (Contributor); Sentencing Practice (Contributor).

Recreations: golf; music; good food and wine.
