What IS Published
Geography
Argyll & Bute
Positioned on rising ground on the south side of the Creran Water 12 miles NE of Oban.
History
According to the 'Black Book of Taymouth' this L plan structure was built in the late 16th century by Sir Duncan Campbell, 7th Laird of Glenorchy, who, as a man of distinction, did much to improve the area before his death in 1631. Garrisoned against Montrose during the Covenanting Wars, 1645.

It was enlarged and embellished by Sir Colin Campbell, 8th Laird of Glenorchy, in 1690 and though it fell into decay in the 18th century when the family left for Barcaldine House, it has since been restored.
